Philanthropist Mike Hoffman Announces New Scholarship During CIA Graduation Address

Hyde Park, NY 鈥 Mike Hoffman, chairman of the philanthropic services firm Changing Our World, was keynote speaker during commencement ceremonies at the New York campus of The Culinary Institute of America on May 4. During his address, Mr. Hoffman鈥攁 member of the CIA鈥檚 Society of Fellows鈥攁nnounced the creation of a scholarship at the college named for his daughter, Shannon, whom he says 鈥渓oves to cook.鈥

鈥淭hrough food, our graduates today will change the world,鈥 Mr. Hoffman told the 96 newest CIA alumni and their families. 鈥淲ith this education and the industry you are about to enter, you are going to have the power to end world hunger, to help fight obesity and malnutrition, to create employment, and to improve the environment.鈥

A race horse owner, Mr. Hoffman said he put money on a Kentucky Derby entry named Hofburg, with any winnings going towards his new CIA scholarship. Alas, Hofburg, a 27-1 longshot, finished in seventh place.

Mr. Hoffman鈥檚 company provides fundraising, management, and social engagement strategy to both corporations and nonprofit organizations. Among Changing Our World鈥檚 clients are the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; the Case Foundation; and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Mr. Hoffman also serves as chairman of the Board of Advisors of Seeds of Africa.
