Hyde Park, NY 鈥 When
the for New York were
announced this week, two alumni from The Culinary Institute of America stood at
the helm of the city鈥檚 Restaurant of the Year. CIA grads听Mario
Carbone and Rich Torrisi, along with partner Jeff Zalaznick, earned the coveted
award for , their popular Manhattan-based venue housed in
the former Four Seasons space.
鈥淢ario and Rich are great examples of the entrepreneurial
spirit our graduates are bringing to the food world,鈥 said CIA President Dr. Tim Ryan. 鈥淚t鈥檚
gratifying to have not only one, but two CIA alumni leading Eater鈥檚 Restaurant
of the Year.鈥
Former CIA classmates Carbone and Torrisi joined Zalaznick in 2010 to form acclaimed restaurant
and hospitality company Major Food Group, whose nine concepts include The Grill
and a pair of Michelin-starred
restaurants, Carbone and ZZ鈥檚 Clam Bar in New York.
Eater鈥檚 annual celebration of top talent honors 鈥渢he
restaurants and chefs that stood out above the rest...that have driven the
conversation and impressed the hordes in dining this year.鈥 And The Grill has
certainly done all that and more since its opening last May. The editors at
Eater had high praise for its top New York City restaurant: 鈥淭he food鈥檚
fantastic. The service is chatty yet fancy. Dining there feels like old-school
New York luxury, and though it鈥檚 been a destination for celebrities, even the
common folk who save up to eat there can feel like a Kennedy.鈥
Eater鈥檚 2017 Readers鈥 Choice Winner for All-Day Restaurant
of the Year was , whose chef is CIA graduate Carmen Quagliata. Daily Provisions is a part of Danny Meyer鈥檚 world-renowned Union Square
Hospitality Group.
