Course Bio: Art and Science of Brewing

Brew beer! In this bachelor’s program elective, you’ll work in a real brewery right on campus, creating a selection of beers to be sold in the CIA’s campus restaurants and bakery café. You’ll learn everything from history to marketing to the basics of how to brew beer. It’s a completely immersive beer education.

“Tap” into brewing beer at the CIA’s New York campus! In this bachelor’s program elective, you’ll work in a real brewery and craft beers to be sold at the , which serve more than 330,000 customers annually. Learn the science and history of beer brewing, as well as marketing strategies used by top beer companies. This is the perfect opportunity if you plan to manage brew pubs, advance retail sales for breweries, or lead beverage programs.

  • Explore beer ingredients, the basic organic chemistry and biology of beer, and brewing equipment and techniques.
  • Learn food and beer pairing, how to maintain proper beer offerings in dining establishments and breweries, and the business of the beer industry.
  • Work on campus in , where you’ll craft the college’s two flagship brands—Cleaver IPA and Mise en Place Wit—as well as a rotating lineup of “class project” seasonal beers.
